What TikTok says about likes and recommendations
In its explanation of the For You feed, TikTok lists user interactions such as the videos you like or share, accounts you follow, comments you post and content you create as recommendation signals, alongside video information like captions, sounds and hashtags, and lower-weighted device and account settings. Likes are one signal among several, not a switch.
What unliking can and can't do

Faster ways to reshape your For You feed
- Refresh your For You feed. TikTok introduced this in March 2023 so you can see recommendations as if you had just signed up; recommendations then build from your new interactions. TikTok says it does not change your settings or the accounts you follow.
- Mark videos Not interested. Press and hold a video, or tap Share, then Not interested; TikTok says it will show fewer posts like it.
- Interact on purpose. Like, follow and watch the topics you want more of; skip the ones you don't.
- Clear old likes. If your Liked tab is full of an interest you've left behind, unliking those videos removes that leftover signal from your account.

Clearing a large Liked tab
Unliking hundreds of videos by hand takes a long time, and TikTok warns that liking too quickly can trigger an alert.
